Jones Falls Trail Under Construction

November 3rd, 2011 | Categories: Infrastructure | 11 comments

If you’ve been up Fallsway lately, you’ve probably noticed some new curb work along the way.  The construction of the Jones Falls Trail has begun between the Inner Harbor and Penn Station.  This off-road trail will connect the Jones Falls Trail at Maryland Avenue with the Gwynns Falls Trail at the Maryland Science Center.    The improvements on Fallsway are the first in the “Phase 2″ of the trail.  You can follow the yellow spray-paint markings noting the construction baseline from Lanvale St to the Inner Harbor.

Wow.  This is very big news.  But I’m a bit confused by the description.  How are you connecting the east side Fallsway (by the supermax: as shown in the picture) to the west side Fallsway (by Lanvale and Maryland)?

…or, I should ask, is there a map of Phase 2 we can see?

Very cool, and much appreciated. I was almost taken out by a state prison (not sure of actual agency) van that passed me with inches to spare at 45+ MPH here last year.

Cool! Will the curb continue south to Gay Street?

My understanding is that we are eventually getting a bike lane or cycle track on Guilford between North Ave and somewhere downtown (maybe all the way to Pratt?).  The Jones Falls Trail cycletrack/bike lane would presumably run up Fallsway, up Guilford, and then on the contraflow Lanvale bike lane towards Falls.

I’m relying entirely on memory and partial facts to reach this conclusion, of course, so maybe Nate or another official can shed some additional light on this :)

I’d love for this to be true.  Last I heard Guilford from Mt. Royal to 33rd was designated to be a bicycle boulevard, with lots of street furniture and traffic calmers to increase bicycle modal share, and they’ve started construction of the calmers above North – but I haven’t heard anything about bike lanes or a cycle track below North.

Nate, can we have a map and information please. :)

Here’s the map of most of the Jones Falls Trail system

Guilford from Mt. Royal to University will be a bike boulevard (shared street with bike-friendly traffic calming).  Full bike lane coming to Guilford/South from Mt. Royal to Pratt (still in design)

Yes, and then some.  The trail will extend around the Inner Harbor to Lee St

    This is so great.

Can’t wait for this thing to be completed.
