The first bike detour signs for the Grand Prix are now in place on Light St

Maybe you’ve heard, the Baltimore Grand Prix take place this Labor Day Weekend.  The Grand Prix course loops Pratt St, Light St, Lee St, Paca St and back to Pratt St.

Many local cyclists are concerned that the “Trolley Lanes,” a major downtown bike connector, would make travel difficult.  In preparation for this event that will effect all downtown traffic whether vehicular, pedestrian, transit or bike, the Department of Transportation and Baltimore Police Department developed a bike detour along the Promenade for cyclists.

With the grandstands being constructed along Light St, the first of the bike detour signs are in place.  While biking will be allowed on the Promenade, please maintain a safe and reasonable speed.  Cyclists are encouraged not to travel faster than 7 mph, equivalent to the speed of a jogger.  If the Promenade is congested with pedestrian traffic, please walk your bike until safe to continue riding.
