I wanted to let you know that our office, working with the Department of Recreation and Parks, was able to secure $30,000 from the state to extend the trail at Indian Rock Park, the wooded area next to Perry Hall High School.  The funding comes from the State Highway Administration’s Recreational Trails Program which awards similar projects across the state.
My goal has been to develop a hiking and biking trail that connects Silver Spring and Ebenezer Roads.  There is currently no pedestrian link in this area.  The route would be determined after environmental analysis and based on community input.   Modest improvements to this parcel for pedestrian and bicycle access have been recommended in the “Walkable Perry Hall” report and the “Perry Hall Community Plan.”  At Silver Spring Road, the path would become part of the Northeast Trail, which is envisioned to stretch along Perry Hall Boulevard to Linover Park in Overlea.
Senator Kathy Klausmeier and Delegates Joe Boteler, John Cluster, and Eric Bromwell have expressed support for the trail. I appreciate their support of the grant application, as well as County Executive Kamenetz and the Department of Recreation and Parks.
