Baltimore City Rec & Parks Celebrates National Trails Day

There’s no shortage of fun to get involved with this weekend.  Baltimore City Recreation & Parks is offering a host of activities along the Gwynns Falls Trail to celebrate National Trails Day!

Guided Bird Walk  8:30 – 10:00 on the Windsor Hills Conservation Trail
Sponsored  by The Windsor Hills Conservation Trail Committee of Windsor Hills Neighbors, meet at the trail head at the corner of Clifton Road and Fairfax Road and join a guided walk watching birds on a woodland trail to the Gwynns Falls. These woods are excellent for finding woodpeckers, Acadian Flycatchers, Red-eyed Vireo, and Thrush. Red-shouldered Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, and Louisiana Waterthrush. The walk will be leisurely, but with some uneven and steep surfaces.  Leaders are Paul and Elise Kreiss, neighborhood residents and members of the Baltimore Bird Club. ekreiss@toadmail.com 410 367-8194. Boy Scout Troops clean up Dead Run 8:30 AM until 2 PM

 6-8 mile Hike through Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park and along the Gwynns Falls Trail from 9 a.m to 12:00 noon
Meet at the Eagle Drive/Windsor Mill Road parking lot.  Sponsored by the Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, take a guided hike on the rugged woodland trails in the hills and along stream valleys in Baltimore’s beautiful 1200-acre woodland park. 14 mile Memorial Bike Ride from the I-70 Park and Ride to the Inner Harbor, 10 AM -  open ended
Sponsored by the Gwynns Falls Trail Council in memory of Bill Eberhart and Bob Moore, take a one-way guided tour of the Gwynns Falls Trail through extensive Gwynns Falls/ Leakin Park, Carrol Park along marked bike  lanes to Federal Hill. Bring your own lunch or buy it at the Cross Street Market. Eat your lunch on top of Federal Hill with a beautiful view of the harbor. Explore Leakin Park on a guided 2-mile History Walk! 10:00 AM – 12 Noon.
Leave from 4500 Franklintown Road Winans Meadow parking lot Baltimore, Md.21229. This Talk and Walk tour will be guided by historian Dr. Ed Orser, president of the Friends of Maryland Olmsted Parks and Landscapes. For information and suggested registration call Ed.410 566 2230  Canceled in rain
